Well done Girls...a very good season!

To enter the top league in the region, West Midlands Womens’ Division 1, with an Under 16 team and finish 5th is a great achievement. Having gained promotion last year in the last match of the season the aim was to compete, gain experience but most importantly establish ourselves in the league enabling us to challenge for honours next season. The other teams in the league are senior women many with National League experience. The girls won 6 matches of the 14 played however all the defeats were closely fought and lack of senior experience was the difference between victory and defeat. The team should be very pleased with their achievements and look forward to next season with great hope. It is often difficult to remember where we have come from at the beginning of the season but there have been massive improvements by all players. Serving is now much more consistent. Confidence, particularly amongst our younger players, has grown and grown. Hitting has also become more consistent and powerful. All players have improved and it is great to see. The league is always seen as preparation for national age group competitions and with our U16 team competing in the U18s was going to be difficult. We played very well but with only 2 teams to qualify fell short to Redhill and Newcastle both of which went onto the national final itself. At U16 level the club were bitterly disappointed that having easily qualified for the National Last 8s the team was missing 3 of the first 6 due to the inconsiderate timings of the competition i.e. in a school holiday. We did however play well but failed to reach the semi-finals despite beating one of the eventual finalists. Next season will require a greater focus and dedication by all of the squad to enable us to play a faster, more varied system of play, a great challenge but an exciting one. Well to all of the girls!! Gabi, Christina, Sam, Amber, Jo, Liv, Leandra, Sophie, Emily, Angel, Kamni, Frankie, Beth, Alice and Anna all of whom have played in the first team this year. Thank you to the girls for all of their efforts during the season, Tettenhall Tigers is a club who want players to enjoy volleyball by giving their best in training and matches and seeing how good they can be. Thank you also to the parents who have supported the team through watching matches, transporting to matches, washing kit and a special thanks to our committee members who have enabled our club to continue to grow and succeed. Well done and thanks to all. Bring on next season!! To see the League Table and this seasons results go to http://www.westmidlandsvolleyball.co.uk/competitions/leagues/table/16.html

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WEST MIDLANDS PLAYERS!!

Over the Bank Holiday weekend 8 of our players represented the West Midlands Regional Squads at the National Inter-Regional Championships held in Kettering. Sam Latham-Talbot captained the Under 16 Girls team along with Gabi De Rosa and Christina Watts. At Under 14 level Angel Beckford and Sophie Banks played in U14A and Emily Rogers captained the U14B team with Fiona Mackintosh also in the team. Within the Boys team Akash Raj played for the Under 15s. We are so proud of all our players who were a real credit to the West Midlands as well as our club. The results too were also impressive. In the U14 girls competitions both the A and B teams reached the semi-finals only to both lose to the eventual winners. In the play offs the A team finished the competiton in 3rd place with the B team coming 4th. At Under 16 level in the girls competition the West Midlands battled to the final and missed out in the final finishing in the silver medal position. In the Under 15 Boys competition a similar story with West Midlands narrowly missing out on the gold medal but still showing how strong our region is with a very creditable 2nd place. The usual Super 6 was replaced this year with MVP (Most Valuable Player) awards. The player considered by opposition teams to have been the most valuable opponent was selected from all the players in the competiton. Tettenhall Tigers are really proud to announce that Sophie Banks won the MVP for the U14A Girls Competition!! A great achievement considering over 50 players were involved in the U14A competition. Well done Sophie!! Well done to all of our players and a special thanks to Bertrand Olie and all of the Regional Coaches, Alex Smith, Ant Viggars and Bob Fordi for all the time they put into coaching the squads over the course of the year. Thanks also to Jon Chetham who heads Junior Development and Lucy Caddick and Becky Clayton who manage all the arrangements throughout the season. All volunteer their time to make things happen for junior volleyball...thank you. The challenge now is to ensure we have even more Regional players next year and perhaps one or two national players to join Rashad Ali at England and GB level.

Will all players check your calendar. If you can't make a match you MUST let the coach know ONE WEEK BEFORE. We have had a couple of matches where the Coach has been chasing around after players. Thank you

A club that achieves accreditation will be a mark of a quality club that is equitable, inclusive, friendly, well-run and most importantly safe. With Volley 1 accreditation our club also receives the prestigious Sport England Clubmark award.
